The old Iceberg
So often as any small business can tell you, it really is all about the finished product, and the satisfaction of our clients. And if you're really good, those clients see only the ease in which you have created their vision, and the lasting memory you've given them. Otherwise know as "the tip of the iceberg".
The drudgery of the mundane tasks we tackle in our offices may be 70% of what we do; The day-to-day busy work that gets us the opportunities to meet with new clients, crunching numbers, quoting and re-quoting, doing the taxes, and swapping out internet domains is the actual job. And if you are like me, you are a working mom. A mom-teacher-business owner-nurse-wife-daughter kind of me, and there is no such thing as "regular business hours". Ha! Hahaha, ahhhh. 3am? Yep, we know each other well. As a cake artist it is when I usually finish up, ready for those Saturday morning pick ups by bright-eyed clients on their way to their celebrations. I get to keep the Ooohs and Ahhhs, the amazing reviews by amazing clients, and the photograph of my creation before its sliced up and served. THAT is other 30% we truly work for. The tip of that iceberg.
Would I trade it for a 9 to 5? Not a chance.
